The National Student Survey 2022 launches at Imperial
Final year undergraduates are asked to rate their experience at Imperial as the 2022 National Student Survey opens for responses.
The Survey, which is open until 30 April 2022, invites students to assess the College on areas such as academic support, learning resources and assessment and feedback.
Acting on feedback
Professor Emma McCoy , Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) said:
"I encourage all final year students to complete the National Student Survey. It is an extremely important barometer for the College of the things that we are getting right, but also where we can improve, and we take the results very seriously. By taking part in the Survey you are shaping the Imperial experience for future students just as those who came before you shaped your own experience.
“ We want Imperial to be the best it can be for all of our students . The COVID-19 pandemic has affected much of the last two years for everyone who studies and works at Imperial. But your resilience, compassion for each other and positivity has strengthened our community and helped us to get through the tough times.
"Our plans for the future have adapted to, and in some cases been improved by the pandemic, but they are no less ambitious. These improvements range from campus developments, including new multi-disciplinary laboratories, lecture theatre conversions and next-generation AV, to improved student support such as an expanded Mental Health Advice service . Thank you in advance for completing the survey and sharing your views with us, they really do make a difference. ”
Some actions the College has taken in response to previous surveys include:
- Providing guidance to students on remote learning and assessment.
- Providing guidance for staff on the principles of good examination design.
- Improvements to different categories of assessment as a result of the College-wide Curriculum Review.
- Piloting e-portfolios to help address student concerns about assessment and feedback.
- Running more online events, online office hours, and Q&A forums to ensure students felt supported and part of their departmental and College community despite the pandemic. Blended learning has provided opportunities for further innovation and improvement and in many cases has resulted in increased engagement in classes.
- Setting up an NSS task and finish group to address the recommendations provided by the Imperial College Union
- Inviting a greater number of students to join as members of a range of College committees, informing important decisions reflecting the student experience.
Reflecting the student perspective
“Over the last year the Union has worked with faculty and departmental student representatives to develop localised action plans that follow up on department specific issues raised in the NSS.
"We are also working with the College to address some fundamental issues that came up such as assessment and feedback, overwhelming workload and further improvement of welfare support.”
Have your say
Eligible students can complete the survey on the NSS website from 6 January until 30 April 2022.
